Anchorage Fishing Report
Weekly fishing conditions, local updates, and where we'd fish this week.
Fishing opportunities around Anchorage continue to improve as local lakes produce excellent rainbow trout action while anglers wait for Ship Creek to reopen on July 14.
This year Hatchery will release 4 million Chinook (king) salmon, coho (silver) salmon, rainbow trout, and Arctic Char in 200 lakes, a boost for sport fishing in the miles surrounding southcentral Alaska.
Local Anchorage stocked lakes (including Cheney, Delong, and Sand lakes) are fishing well for rainbow trout using small spinners, wet flies, or bait under a bobber. Be sure to check out our Anchorage Stocked Lakes page where we have a complete report on each of the 8 stocked lakes within 30 minutes of Downtown.

Although King salmon fishing remains limited by emergency closures, there are still plenty of opportunities to catch rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic char, and Arctic grayling.
If you're visiting Alaska this week, don't let the Ship Creek closure keep you off the water.
This Week at a Glance
- Ship Creek remains closed until July 14.
- King salmon retention will not be allowed after reopening.
- Rainbow trout fishing continues to be excellent in Anchorage-area lakes.
- Symphony Lake reopened to fishing on July 1.
- Campbell Creek remains under single-hook, no-bait restrictions through July 31.
- Always review current Emergency Orders before heading out.
Where We Will Be Fishing

My pick is Cheney Lake. ADF&G notes rainbow trout fishing here has been "excellent" this season, with the first stocking before Memorial Day and another around July 4. Regulars are catching Rainbows daily and there are some good sizes being recorded. Trout fishing isn't my jam during King Season, but with the Kings out of the picture this year, some nice fat Rainbows will fit the bill nicely.
