Three ways to stay warm.
Iditarod
$44 / day
Warmth and mobility for dog sledding, glacier tours, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and sightseeing in temperatures down to -20°F.
Northern Lights
$58 / day
Maximum warmth for aurora viewing, Fairbanks travel, and extended time outdoors in temperatures as low as -40°F.
Each kit includes a parka, snow pants, gloves, winter boots, and a Yaktrax Adventure Warmer Pack. A $10 cleaning fee per person applies. Need individual pieces? A la carte: Alyeska items $20, Iditarod items $22, Northern Lights items $24; winter footwear $18 per pair. Call us to arrange your selection.
A little room makes a big difference
Let’s find your fit.
Winter gear should feel comfortable when you move, sit, and bend—not just when you’re standing still. Our brochure contains all of the detailed size charts you will need to ensure a proper fit.
Leave room for layers
Think about what you’ll wear underneath your parka and snow pants. You should have room for your layers without feeling squeezed at the shoulders, waist, or knees. Compare your measurements with the sizing guide for your selected kit, and ask us if you’re between sizes.
Keep snow pants comfortable
As Paul says, don’t worry about choosing a larger size than you normally wear. Snow pants should have a loose, comfortable fit with room for a base layer. Try sitting and bending your knees to check that you can move freely.
Choose boots with toe room
Our women’s Baffin SnoGoose boots run small, so we recommend one full size larger than your usual shoe size. Men’s Baffin Canada boots run true to size. Your toes should move comfortably. If you have wide feet, tell us your foot width so we can help with the fit.
Start with dry wool socks
Medium-weight wool socks work well with Baffin’s insulated liners; avoid cotton blends. Start each day with a clean, dry pair, and remove the boot liners each evening so the boots and liners can dry away from direct heat.
Check the coverage
When trying on your gear, check that your parka covers your lower back as you bend, your snow pants meet your boots, and your gloves overlap your jacket cuffs. You want to keep gaps closed without restricting movement.
Plan for your head and neck
Bring a warm hat and neck protection. For aurora viewing or extended time standing outside, we recommend a balaclava to cover your head, ears, and neck. Tell us about your plans and we’ll help you work out what you need.
